APD Chief Joseph Chacon to retire; chief of staff named as interim police chief AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Austin Police Chief Joseph Chacon is stepping away from the Austin Police Department after 25 years with the department and two years serving as its leader. The City of Austin said in a press release Chacon on Monday morning notified Interim City Manager Jesús Garza, the Mayor, Council, and his team at APD, of his intent to retire effective the first week of September of this year. “Chief Chacon has certainly made an impressive mark on the City with his effort to move the police department in new directions,” said Interim City Manager Jesús Garza.  “We will miss his leadership and dedication but are confident that the team he leaves behind will be able to further the great efforts he started.”Chacon said working at APD has been "the privilege of my life. Traffic Alert: All lanes of I-35 northbound closed at 290 East due to crash AUSTIN (KXAN) -- All lanes of Interstate 35 northbound near Highway 290 were closed due to a fatal crash early Monday morning. I-35 northbound was shut down at exit 238B after a person was hit and killed by a vehicle in the area, according to the Austin Police Department. APD said one vehicle involved stopped and stayed at the scene but it's unclear if that was the only vehicle involved. The interstate is expected to be closed for several hours. Vermonter arrested on domestic assault warrant POWNAL, Vt. (NEWS10) -- A Pownal, Vermont, man was arrested on a warrant on Friday regarding a domestic assault case. Vermont State Police say they were called to a residence on Montgomery Road in Pownal, Vermont, around 10:24 p.m. Friday night.
