On Tuesday morning when countless pink slips were handed out to players across the NFL, edge rusher Thomas Incoom lost his appetite. As an undrafted rookie, Incoom’s odds of making Denver’s 53-man roster were low. His nerves were at an all-time high, so much so that he skipped breakfast and practiced on an empty stomach.Incoom did everything he could to make an NFL roster. He said it was up to the man upstairs to answer his prayers. If that was indeed the case, consider his prayers were answered. Incoom was named to the active roster, joining an outside linebacker room that features Randy Gregory, Frank Clark, Nik Bonitto and Jonathon Cooper.“It’s surreal,” he said after Thursday’s practice. “I just kept playing and hoping for a shot. These Coloradans sought out psilocybin-assisted therapy before it was legal. Here’s why.

In the fall of 2021, John Bigley was sitting on the floor of an apartment in downtown Denver. He held a cup of psilocybin mushroom tea, trying to calm his nerves. For more than 30 years, he’d kept the sexual abuse he experienced as a child a secret, buried in the back of his mind where the abusers couldn’t hurt him. That’s also where he relegated the grief about his father, who died when Bigley was just 13.He’d kicked an alcohol addiction and tried counseling, but nothing restored his sense of self. In an effort to save himself and his marriage, Bigley hired a life coach to help him prepare for a different kind of treatment.“I want to find the freedom to feel again,” Bigley, 42, recalled saying in that apartment as he sat in a circle with about 10 other people, plus four sober facilitators assigned to offer support. They discussed their hopes for the impending journey. Then, Bigley and the others drank the tea dosed with three grams of dried mushrooms containing the psycho...

After Oakland craft beer enthusiast Iva Walton lovingly restored a historic Chinese gambling den on Isleton’s Main Street and opened it as her popular Mei Wah Beer Room in 2017, local leaders hoped that other creatively minded entrepreneurs would follow her path to the sleepy Delta town and help spur its renaissance.Alas, the renaissance got delayed by the pandemic, but the community of some 800 people appears to be back on track with efforts to become a Bay Area day-trip destination for food, arts, history and small-town charm.Over the past couple years, others have rehabbed buildings with colorful histories and turned them into cozy restaurants and hip coffee houses. There’s also a new art gallery, a cluster of new boutiques, cannabis dispensaries and the gorgeous new Isleton Museum, which opened in October. Housed in the nearly 100-year-old-old Bing Kong Tong Building, the museum highlights the town’s once-vibrant Chinese and Japanese communities. In June, Isleton als...

The 49ers have perviously shown no reluctance in signing top players to record-setting contracts.Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle, Fred Warner, and Trent Williams all set the market at their positions when they signed new deals with San Francisco. All but one — I’ll let you guess — deserved it.The Niners didn’t hesitate on those deals because the front office wanted to build the reputation around the league that it “takes care of its guys.”But heading into Labor Day weekend — the final weekend before the start of the regular season — the Niners’ top guy still needs a new, record-setting contract. So much for that reputation. While, yes, two parties need to agree on a new contract, it is an embarrassment that the entire preseason is over and the Niners have not received Nick Bosa’s signature on a new deal. This should have been sorted out weeks — if not months — ago.Nick Bosa (Shae Hammond/Bay Area News Group) It’s not like Bosa’s excel...
